Kathryn + Ryan | Burleigh Falls | Engagement

Kathryn and Ryan decided on Burleigh Falls (located in Peterborough County) for the location of their engagement photos. I was very excited to shoot an engagement session at Burleigh Falls and to be able to spend some time exploring with the couple. I visited Burleigh Falls a few times as a child but had not been back in quite some time. All of the trees were just changing colours surrounding the falls, so it was absolutely beautiful! The weather was a little bit chilly as we met in the evening, but nothing that we couldn’t handle!

We started the session around the Burleigh Falls Inn and then ventured across the road to this cute little spot with a few locks in the background. We then drove down the road a bit to park closer to Burleigh Falls and walked around that area. The water was moving very fast and at that time of year the water would be freezing cold so it was a little bit nerve wracking walking on the rocks right over the falls. We stopped to chill for a bit and enjoy a beverage by the falls and warm up with some blanket cuddles (well Kathryn + Ryan did, not me)! Haha. The evening was absolutely perfect. We weren’t rushed at all, we had the place to ourselves, we were able to have some great conversations and laughs along the way. I know how uncomfortable it can feel in front of the camera, especially if you aren’t really use to having your photos taken by a photographer. That’s why I always recommend having an engagement session done before your wedding. It will shake off some of the awkward nerves that you have and it will also give the photographer a chance to really bond with you as a couple and get to know you and how you respond in front of the camera.

I love being able to finish off a session (especially an engagement) at sunset. There’s nothing like having a few of those romantic photos while watching the sun go down. I really enjoyed spending a couple hours with Kathryn + Ryan and being able to document this special memory for them to look back on.
